Core Session Descriptions

Session Title: Cultivating a Bike Culture - Premieres on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 6pm - YouTube Video Link (will be active on 10/21/21 at 6pm)
Presenter: Matthew Bristol

What does cultivating a bike culture mean to you and your school? For us, it started with providing our students with access to bicycles and quality biking experiences. This session will share the story of one school bike program from a small town in Vermont, how they developed a bike culture at their school, and how they have adapted and changed the program over the years to meet the needs of all students. Topics to be covered include planning, purchasing or accessing bikes, storage, maintenance, lesson plans, after-school programing, and more.

Session Title: Dancing in September
Presenter: Shannon Maly
Dance can be a perfect vehicle for students to tap into their self- and social awareness. Join us as we explore how dance and SEL can foster student creativity and expression. In this session we will discover dance instruction through a SEL lens and how it may foster a student’s creativity and expression. Design concrete, actionable techniques that use movement to address crucial social-emotional learning objectives and Shape America National Physical Education Standards. Demonstrate how to use dance to address common problems students face: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships and decision-making.

Understanding these challenges, promoting an active school environment, and teaching children how to cope with stress, bullying, and societal pressures can make all the difference.

The health. moves. minds.™ program brings the lessons, activities, and community-building ideas that can help kids live their best lives.
